Image of the month (January 2007)

This image took the honors from Nature cell Biology when they featured Arabidopsis trichome as the cell of month in 2004 ( Nature Cell Biology 6, 707 (2004) ).

In the issue that honored this image, the following was the text that accompanied the image:

"The image shows a plant hair cell (trichome) on a leaf of Arabidopsis thaliana. The image was obtained using cryo-fixation techniques and a field-emission scanning electron microscope (JEOL 6300F). Bar, 100 m. The winner would like to acknowledge the help of T. Ritsema (University of Basel, Switzerland)".
